Chemistry is tough! But not for our tutor of the month, Mary G. Mary has been teaching college-level Chemistry for 27 years, and has taught a wide variety of Chemistry courses. She holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, and tutors our students in Chemistry and Organic Chemistry subjects. Mary is also married with two children, both of which use Tutor.com. In fact, one of her children introduced her to our service! Read more about Mary below.
Why do you tutor with Tutor.com?
There are many things I enjoy about working with the students who use Tutor.com. One is the never-ending variety of problems presented by the students. Never knowing what the next request will be really keeps me on my toes and helps me stay sharp in my field. Many times I have tutored a specific topic only to be teaching it in class that same week, or vice versa. I also enjoy working with the students themselves. I find most of them to be very motivated to learn and very appreciative of the help they receive and that is very gratifying.
What’s your favorite part of tutoring?
My favorite part of tutoring is figuring out exactly what it is that the student needs at that moment and either teaching it to him or helping her to put together what she already knows so she can solve the problem. I love seeing the light bulbs go on!
What’s your best homework or study tip?
If I could give some advice to students, it would be that Chemistry is a difficult subject and that it takes effort and practice. Maintain a positive attitude and keep working at it, getting help when you need it. Chemistry is a key piece of so many careers, but even if you’re not headed for a science-related career, chemistry sharpens your mind and helps you understand the world around you. Keep giving Chemistry your best effort until you master it!
