Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I tutor English, Essay Writing, College Essay, and Asynchronous Essay and College Essay sessions, and I have a fabulous group of tutors that I mentor. I graduated from Penn State with a double major in Education and Communications and taught middle and high school for six years, until I had my own kids. While my kids were young, I ran a multi-media business, dabbled in professional photography, and wrote a book. When my novel was published, I decided to go back to school to get a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.

What is your favorite part of tutoring?

The ability to interact with the student and connect with them about similar frustrations, struggles with getting the right words, love of certain stories, those wonderful Ah-Ha moments they have when they finally get something that’s eluded them for years of schooling… that is the amazing part of the job!

Why do you tutor with What makes you stay?

I received my MFA from Pacific University in 2013, and while I still am writing books and stories, I always assumed I would go back to teaching, too, and maybe at a university level. I realized, however, that teaching classes focused on all the parts I didn’t like about teaching and not enough of what I did love: actually working one-on-one with students. is my dream job, allowing me to still have a flexible schedule with my active teens, and also intense and focused time with students.
