Four Healthy Snacks that Toddlers to Teens Love

In my house studying and snacking go together. Many nights the kids want to reach for ice cream or chips, but I want them to eat healthy. Sound familiar? Since I have a five-year old and a sixteen-year old, I need to find fun, good-for-you fare that fits everybody’s tastes.  It’s hard work, but I know it’s worth it when I read studies like the one from   The New England Journal of Medicine that found “a third of children who were overweight in kindergarten were obese by eighth grade. And almost every child who was very obese remained that way.” Check out the New York Times article on the study here.

I’ve already shared the importance of exercise when it comes to good grades. And the food our kids eat is just as important. Over the years I’ve found a few quick and healthy snacks my kids love that are jam packed with nutrition, so I wanted to share my favorites below!

  1. Oven Baked Zucchini Chips from SkinnyMs.  They’ll satisfy the need for crunch and a portion of your daily vegetables.
  2. Skinny Banana Cookies from Six Sisters Stuff I promise these cookies are still delicious! If your kid has a sweet tooth, these are a must.
  3. Avocado Toast from Cup of Jo and How Sweet It Is Something that is healthy, filling, and quick? What could be better?
  4. Healthy Popcorn ideas from Fit Sugar Buy the kind you pop on the stove (as opposed to the microwave) for an even healthier option! (And remember not to feed popcorn to young kids.  Most experts say children should be a minimum of four.)

If you have a favorite after-school snack, please share it!  I’d love to try it with my girls.
