You never truly know what impact your work will have on someone else. We love the thought of a Biology tutoring session inspiring a student to one day pursue med-school. Or that some Physics homework help could eventually lead to a student orbiting the Earth from space. Tutor.com tutor, Kristen H, knows this hopeful feeling well. Contributing to the careers of future generation keeps her inspired. Learn what else does in her Tutor of the Month Q&A below!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a life-long resident of Nebraska. I have been tutoring with Tutor.com for six years, and have tutored elementary math and science, middle grades math, and Earth Science. I have degrees from both a private Bible college and the University of Nebraska, where I majored in Elementary Education.
I spent eleven years working in multi-grade rural schools, teaching all subjects to students in up to four different grade levels every day. This was a great experience! Today, when I am not working for Tutor.com, I work privately as…a tutor! I run a tutoring business out of my home.
How did you hear about Tutor.com?
A friend of mine knew someone who worked for Tutor.com, and she forwarded me the information. I had no idea such a thing existed and thought it was an exciting idea.
What is your favorite part of tutoring with Tutor.com?
I enjoy teaching and having the chance to really focus on what each student is learning. I also love being home and having flexible hours, so that makes it even better. It’s also good to know I have the chance to contribute to the future careers of so many business people, doctors, musicians, mothers, policemen, entrepreneurs, etc.
Any study tips for students?
Asking questions when you do not understand is one of the best ways to improve. One thing that I admire about so many of the students I work with is their willingness to ask and then to put into practice what they learn.
