Tutor.com’s Mobile Approach Right in Line with the Market Trend

It is no secret that there is tremendous growth in the use of tablets and smart phones to access online content. More and more Americans each year are using their iPads, Kindle Fires, iPhones, Androids and other mobile devices to access websites and content, with less and less happening through traditional desktop and laptop computers. It is a strong measure of our anywhere, anytime lives that these devices are carried with each of us and regularly used throughout the day and night.  This recently reported traffic analysis of consumer websites shows the inordinate growth in tablet/smart phone use in just one year’s time span:

No less is true for students who are seeking to access educational materials, be it for accessing online courses or MOOCS, registering for classes or paying tuition, your students are more likely than ever to be using these devices for these and other education related purposes.

On top of that, this is really “all about the Apps.”  Students and consumers alike are accessing purpose-enabled applications rather than just browsing websites more than 82% of the time from their smart phones (Source: Mobile Marketing Analytics: Danyl Bosomworth, June 10, 2013).   And this speaks volumes for how educational institutions look to teaching and supporting their students in a rapidly changing digital world.

More and more of these sessions are through mobile-enabled devices.  It’s easy to see why.  Campus technology surveys show that 97 percent of college students own a smart phone and 79 percent own a tablet.  Cisco reports that “device-savvy students use PDAs not only to make calls, but also to perform a variety of tasks such as viewing class material, checking bus schedules, finding locations, monitoring laundry machines, and updating their Facebook status.” (Source: Cisco: Higher Education Trends and Statistics; 2013)
