This year we decided to celebrate the power of libraries.
In May we announced the Tutor.com Better Together Contest which brought attention to library programs that bring together resources and better the community. We challenged librarians to submit their ideas for the chance to win a $1,000 grant to bring the program to life.
In June, over 2,000 votes were cast from individuals all over the country looking to support local libraries. The three libraries with the most votes were then handed off to our panel of expert judges and a winner was decided on just in time for ALA Annual! With our boas on and our drinks in hand it was time to announce the winner…
Congratulations to Palm Beach County Library whose Families Reading Together program took home the prize! This program provides children in preschool through 2nd grade with a picture book and a parent/child extension activity. Programs based on the selected book are then offered by their library, school, child care centers and bookstore partners. We wish them the best of luck with their program as it launches again in November!
With so many great ideas, we couldn’t stop there! We held a vote in our ALA booth to find the Show Favorite that would take home $200 to put towards their idea. Congratulations to Alaska Library Network on taking home that prize! The funds will go towards supporting their Bridging the Gap program which promotes Alaska’s resources that improve student success and enhance skills for adult learners.
Big thanks to all the libraries who participated and all the individuals who voted!
