Research indicates that there is a powerful correlation between the foundations laid during the first year and long-term success in college. Not only must schools help students feel comfortable on campus by providing a viable link between high school and college, but they must address academic and social needs in context of student demographics. As the number of adult and online learners increases, schools will be challenged to provide creative outreach to their diverse student bodies.
Recently Kari Koster, Student Success Center Manager from Black Hawk College, and Tutor.com teamed up to present an interactive webinar on the First Year Experience. Kari is currently the Student Success Center Manager at Black Hawk College and Director of the TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program. A seasoned administrator, she and her colleagues are reinventing student engagement, support and retention with the new First Year Experience at Black Hawk College.
