5 Tips for High School Graduates

We’re excited to welcome recent grad, Nicole Trapani, to our Marketing Team! Over the past year Nicole interned with Tutor.com while she finished her senior year at Marist College. If you’re heading to college this fall, read Nicole’s not-to-miss tips for a fun, successful freshman year.

nicolegraduationI learned so much throughout college, yet as I look back, I wish someone would have told me a few crucial pointers before I embarked on my journey. Here are my top five tips that every high school graduate should know:

Manage Your Time

It’s not something that’s taught in classes you take, but you must master this skill to succeed. Make sure you plan out assignments, time to study and extracurricular activities ahead of time to make sure everything gets done on schedule.

Make an Effort to Stand Out

In many colleges, professors may not take the time to get to know you on a personal level. Take a minute to personally introduce yourself to professors and mentors. This helps so much when you need a recommendation or referral for future internships and jobs!

Be Open to New Experiences

Don’t be afraid to join a club that intrigues you no matter how out of your comfort zone you may feel! Clubs, sports and Greek life offers so many opportunities to meet new people that you might never cross paths with in your classes.

Build your Resume from Day One

From the first day you start your college journey, log down every class you take, club you join or fundraiser you attend. This will help you build your resume from the ground up, and will help you obtain a desired internship or job somewhere down the line.

Network, Network, Network!

Always be willing to meet new people. Networking with classmates, colleagues and professors is so important.  Meet as many people as you can, maintain those relationships and keep in touch with them! You never know when a connection from college will come in handy.
