Summer Travels

While Labor Day seems to mark the true end of summer, shorter days and chillier winds in NYC this August have us feeling summer’s end rapidly approaching. But before we officially say hello to fall we wanted to take a look back at some of the great trips that were taken this summer. From canyons in Utah to the Opera House in Sydney, Tutor.com employees were taking full advantage of the summer months as a chance to go on some great adventures!

Here are just a few of the trips taken:

Our annual trip to Spain to visit my husband’s family is easily summed up by the Spanish Proverb my mother sent me:  How lovely it is to do nothing and rest afterwards.   – Kate Vershon, K-12 Marketing Director

My daughter Bryce and I traveled to Bryce Canyon (the source of her name), Zion and Capitol Reef national parks in Utah this summer.  Each park was a bit different with Zion’s red and white rocky mountains, Bryce Canyon’s open canyons filled with red limestone “hoodoos”, and Capitol Reef with a paid “honor system” fee allowing entry to a 20 mile drive through otherworldly terrain.  It made us realize why movie scenes of Mars and strange planets were actually filmed in these areas.  We sure weren’t in NYC anymore!   – Pamela Livingston, Product Manager

For our summer vacation, my family rented a cottage in the beautiful Litchfield Hills of Connecticut. We enjoyed hiking and exploring new trails and natural wonders around the Housatonic River. We went swimming, biking, rock climbing, and horseback riding, as well as antiquing and going to museums. Right in town we discovered the nation’s first public library, established in 1803. My wife indulged herself with painting (as I did with taking photographs), since the light in that corner of the state is amazing. Every day we ate fresh food sourced directly from local farms, which really made us appreciate healthy, natural meals. At our favorite stop, the kids enjoyed seeing Maggie, a border collie who likes playing soccer with visitors (check out Maggie here!)   – Duane Romanell, Creative Services Director

I had a family reunion complete with family Olympics, trivia, talent shows, s’mores and the incredible sunsets of Pure Michigan! We also celebrated the life of my cousin Cooper, who joined us in the form of a frog all weekend long!    – Steve Schrage, Marketing Coordinator Military & Federal

In early August, I went to Australia with my girlfriend so we could visit her family in Hervey Bay, a small coastal town in Queensland. On the way there, we stopped in Sydney and Brisbane. The photographer in me was inspired by the sunsets over the Pacific on the Sunshine Coast and the iconic landmarks in Sydney like the Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Other highlights for me were the Taronga Zoo, where we watched the koalas climb trees to get some eucalyptus to eat and a visit to the Ale House at the Castlemaine Brewery. …Oh! I almost forgot to mention what a fantastic time we had during the week we spent with her parents. I can’t wait to go back.  – Matt O’Connor, Product Support/Customer Service Representative
